Our dance program supports development of communication, leadership, physical coordination and movement, and social confidence. The original class exceeded capacity at the outset, forcing us to limit the class size and open an additional section. Dance and movement come naturally to many of our youth and we offer a venue to develop and diversify their skills. The participants take trips to dance studios, performances, and related higher education settings to complement their in class learning. The facilitator provides opportunities for dancers to enhance self-esteem and self-image, while getting an amazing work-out and having fun. Dancers take turns introducing new choreography and lead sections of class time. Advanced students rise up as leaders to work one-on-one with beginners. The Spring class was comprised mostly of new students with “two left feet.” After an incredible amount of practice and teamwork, the final performance was a stunning display of talent. |
