An after school program that provides a safe space for teens to explore their talents and passions while becoming leaders and preparing for the future. Our staff work collaboratively with teenagers to develop a social climate that encourages both personal freedom and responsibility. To encourage broad participation, SRCO has ongoing partnerships with seven local middle and high schools: M.S. 127, St. Raymond Grammar School, Millennium Art Academy, Pablo Neruda Academy, School for Community Research and Learning, Herbert H. Lehman H.S., St. Raymond’s Girls Academy, and St. Raymond High School for Boys.
Teens from any school in the Bronx can register for classes and workshops.
(Please note: Not all classes are offered year-round. Please check current schedule and contact us to register for any of our programs)
SRCO takes a youth centered approach to planning programs that focus on the specific developmental needs of teens. Our staff works collaboratively with teenagers to develop a social climate that encourages both personal freedom and responsibility. LEAD activities offer an environment where adolescents can bond with a consistent group of adults to build the trusting, supportive relationships that will help them remain in school and work towards their potential. SRCO provides opportunities for youth to improve their academic performance, prepare to enter college or an advanced training program, and develop interpersonal, coping, problem solving, and pre-employment skills as alternatives to violence.
Our community room is packed each afternoon with a variety of arts activities and workshops. Students often arrive as early as 2:00 pm to get a head start on their homework before their workshops begin. SRCO offers a variety of teen arts, academic, and leadership activities. Youth interests are matched with enriching and engaging activities that help them meet the challenges of adolescence, while supporting the New York State English Language Arts, and Career Development and Occupational Studies Learning Standards. SRCO reaches more than 150 youth, ages 12-19 through workshops such as The Art of Rhyme, Bronx DJ Academy, dance, book club, and other life skill topics. Participants receive regular training to develop and master skills in a variety of performance and non-performance based disciplines.
